The Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV) is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, and will be marked in a variety of ways, including a gathering of past commodores, members, committees and volunteers at Royal Brighton Yacht Club (RBYC) on 8 October; the same night ORCV season’s trophy presentation and AGM will take place.

Back to Chelsea Invitation

The Back to Chelsea Invitation to be held on Saturday 8th February 2020, will bring to life the excitement of dinghy sailing from the Club’s formation in 1938, to the post war boom in sailing through the 1950’s to 1970’s with contemporary Chelsea boats including V.J.’s, Vee Esses, Skates, Payne Mortlock Canoes, GP-14’s, Rainbows and Heavyweight and timber lightweight Sharpies both sailing and on display .

Little ‘Tackers’ set sail across Port Melbourne

Recently, with squeals of delight - phrases such as ‘tacking’, ‘turn to starboard’, ‘launch the boat’ and ‘duck the boom’, could be heard clearly from students as they sailed across the waters of Albert Park Lake and Port Melbourne. The lucky year 5/6 students from St Christopher’s Primary School, Glen Waverley, learnt to set sail!

Boettcher back as Festival of Sails first entrant

South Australian yachtsman Geoff Boettcher had planned to show off a new 52-footer from overseas and defend his 2019 Rating Division 1 win at the Festival of Sails in Geelong in January 2020. Instead, he will return to the popular Australia Day regatta with the same but overhauled JV TP52, Secret Mens Business.
