The Australian Sabre class continues to prove itself as one of the most accessible forms of sailing on offer, with the Victorian fleet recently bringing a land-loving Spaniard into its ranks and introducing him to the sport.
Media reports highlight that beaches, piers, jetties and boat ramps are closed and that recreational boating is not an essential activity. The water police understand that boats need to be looked after.  Sorrento Sailing and Couta Boat Club  confirmed with the Victorian Water Police what is allowed when looking after your boat and what “add-ons†are going to get you in a world of strife.

Double-handed racing is fast becoming à la mode in Australia, and Jeanneau Sun Fast 3600’s like Maverick are topping the podium at events in Australia and overseas.
Sailing Maverick double-handed, Rod Smallman and Tom Vaughan have cleaned up in the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria’s 48th Melbourne to King Island Yacht Race, taking out IRC, PHS and Double-Handed divisions and capping off with a second in AMS in the 114 nautical mile race to Grassy in Tasmania.

The Longbeach Regatta brings all sailing clubs along the long beach together for a major yearly regatta.
Entry for the Long Beach Group of Sailing Clubs- Frankston Yacht Club , Mordiallic Sailing Club, Mordiallic Motor Yacht Club, Chelsea Yacht Club, Parkdale Yacht Club, Carrum Sailing and Motor Boat Club and Beaumaris Yacht Club is FREE.
A fleet of eight boats competed in the annual Val Hodge race hosted by RYCV, with this also being the third race of the 19/20 PPWCS series. This year the day had a different format with 2 races being held.
It may have been a case of “saved by the wind†for Rio Olympic champion, Marit Bouwmeester. The three-time world champion led by 24 points over night but saw her margin trimmed to just two points after the first race of the final day. A big wind shift caught a number of the top sailors out, and Bouwmeester, who received a yellow flag (penalty turns), finished 29th. This became her second “drop†but brought into play a 24th from yesterday.
On the weekend of February 22 - 23 Twenty four sailors, their friends and families descended on Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron to compete in the 2020 Championships of the Hansa Class 2.3 303 and Liberty yachts.
