Youth Scholarship Success
Published Thu 08 Aug 2024
In July Darwin Sailing Club in conjunction with Cullen Bay Marina ran their first Making Waves Youth Scholarship. The four successful recipients Jabari, Harlen, Kody, and Ella kicked off their sailing adventures during the recent July school holidays.
The program kicked off on the Elliot 7’s as the crew dove into the basics of boat handling, safety, rigging, de-rigging, and crewing. Guided by their instructor, Meg, they experienced three thrilling days of sailing and MAKING WAVES.
Later in the week they were introduced to dinghy sailing in RS Quests. It's safe to say that the ‘sailing bug’ bit hard, as the kids couldn't get enough of being on the water!!
The excitement didn't stop there. Just in time for the Youth Sail NT - Jabari, Kody, and Ella decided to team up in an RS Quest and competed in their first regatta! Their teamwork and passion were evident, marking an unforgettable milestone in their sailing journey.
All four scholarship winners will continue their sailing journey and have joined the weekly OutThere Sailing program ‘Youth Fleet’ for the remainder of the season. Next stop on their pathway will be the Assistant Instructor course early 2025.
We are delighted to welcome these young sailors to the club and look forward to nurturing the sailors of the future. We are incredibly proud of Jabari, Harlen, Kody, and Ella, and we look forward to seeing their continued growth and success on the water. Welcome aboard, young sailors! 🌊⛵️
