World Sailing President sails in to shoot breeze

Published Tue 14 May 2019

President of World Sailing Kim Andersen squeezed in time with Australian Sailing President Matt Allen between the SportAccord 2019 Summit on the Gold Coast and attending World Sailing’s 2019 Mid-Year Meeting in London.

Mr Allen said the brief meeting at the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron gave him the opportunity to spend a rare day discussing sailing with Mr Andersen.

“It was a pleasure to co-host Kim and his wife and a good opportunity from them to reacquaint themselves with Australia given that they both lived here in the 1980s,” Mr Allen said.

“We also held some discussions with Sarah Kenny (Vice President of Australian Sailing and Chair of World Sailing Events Committee) and Daniel Belcher (Australian Sailing Director) about the development of sailing in context of the Olympics ahead of the Mid-Year Meeting in London.

“Talk was also around some of the changes that World Sailing are looking to make which includes looking at things other than Olympics and to increase focus on developing the whole of sport.”
