Working with Vulnerable People - TAS
Published Thu 04 Mar 2021
On 1 February 2021, important changes were made to Registration to Work with Vulnerable People worker screening. These changes affect both you as an employer and your registered employees/workers including volunteers.
Changes to obligations
- Employers are required to ensure that workers have their details added or removed within 10 working days after they start or finish working for you.
- You can allow a worker to begin working while an application is being processed. However to do this you must:
- make sure a registered person supervises the worker at all times, and
- have a Risk Management Plan in place which is specific to that worker.
- You can prepare and manage your own Risk Management Plan for your worker. The Registrar requires the Plan includes how the worker supervision will be managed.
- If you are an NDIS employer and your worker commenced after 1 February 2021, they must apply for registration to work with children with NDIS endorsement. If they already have a registration to work with children then NDIS allows them to use that category until it expires.
You may have already read information about these changes, however I encourage you and your organisation to keep fully informed by visiting the CBOS website:

- using the employer portal and User Guide.
