Women's Short Course Series: Goolwa Regatta Week
Published Mon 19 Dec 2022
On the 22nd of January is the Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club’s first-ever Women’s Short Course Series, where boats are to be exclusively crewed by women.
The Notice of Race for this Regatta is attached. The Short Course Series is an open event as part of Goolwa Regatta Week, and we are encouraging women from other clubs to join in.
I have negotiated with 2 boat owners to lend their boats to experienced skippers and their crews so they can participate in this event. If this interests you, please let me know by return email or on 0431 053 104.
For anyone considering bringing their boat to Goolwa to participate, the Club has a limited number of visitor berths available. Contact details to book a berth are contained in the attached NOR.
That weekend we have several sailing events:
- Friday 20th: Race 2 in the Club’s Women’s Twilight Series
- Sat 21st: Practice for Women’s Short Course Series Regatta
- Marina Challenge
- Sun 22nd: Women’s Short Course Series Regatta
- Vintage Boat Race
On the Friday of the 20th of January is the second race in the Club’s Women’s Twilight Series, where each boat must have a minimum of 50% women crew, including a woman helm.
Goolwa Regatta Week kicks off on the 21st of January with the Marina Challenge – a fun time trial race in the residential lagoons of Coorong Quays – another event visiting boats might be interested in.
For those who are considering spending the weekend at Goolwa, the GRYC’s SheSails Committee members have a few spare beds to save you the drive to and from Goolwa.
If you would like to participate in these events, either as a sailor or in a support role, such as assisting on the start boat, please let me know by return email and we will do our best to find a spot for you!
