Winter Warmer for Power Yachts
Published Thu 11 Aug 2022
The Cruising & Power Yacht Committee of Western Australia continued their State Heat Championships last weekend with the CPYC State Heat 5 and Ti Tu Invitation hosted by South of Perth Yacht Club.
Never heard of Time Trialling. It is where a skipper and navigator of a motor yacht power their way around a specific course whilst ‘guestimating’ the exact second of which minute they’ll pass the navigational marks. Hours of planning and years of experience can be thrown off by a single wave, puff of wind or pesky ferry, as every second counts.
Events typically take between 40 minutes and 2 hours depending on your nominated speed. Whilst the Skipper and Navigator, affectionately known the ‘Naviguesser’ sweat the seconds, their partners, friends and family can be seen enjoying nibbles and bubbles on the back deck enjoying the swan river.
State Heat 3 saw ‘Thanet’ of Guy Skinner and Richard Evans with Least Points score of losing just 6 seconds across the course. The top ten were within 20 seconds of each other. State Heat 4 saw ‘Dalusional’ of Troy Dalglish and Victoria Blanckensee loose only 7 seconds to take the trophy with the top five less than five seconds between them.
Everything is up for grabs with only four more races across August and concluding with Race 8 on September 10. There is a myriad of vantage points along the banks of the Swan. Jump onto the CPYC website or sportspage.com.au for all the details.
