Winners Preparing to Host an Olympian
Published Tue 10 Sep 2024
Off the back of the successful Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Australian Sailing is thrilled to announce the official winners of the much anticipated Host an Olympian competition.
The first competition of its kind, Host an Olympian saw Australian Sailing affiliated clubs and class associations enter for a chance to win an exclusive visit from a Paris 2024 Olympic sailor or coach, as well as a variety of other prizes.
Of the incredible 57 entries from every State in Australia, Townsville Sailing Club (QLD) and Cronulla Sailing Club (NSW) won the ultimate prizes, a visit from an Olympian and Olympic coach respectively, whilst Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (NSW), Rosebud Yacht Club (VIC) and Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron (VIC) also won a signed merchandise pack.
Townsville Sailing Club Commodore, Wesley Bailey, says winning the Host an Olympian competition means a great deal to the club and it’s members.
“We are incredibly excited as Townsville Sailing Club to play host to one of our amazingly talented Olympic sailors,” said Bailey.
“The sailing community is extremely proud of the achievements of the Olympic sailors, knowing the commitment and dedication that it takes for these sailors to reach the pinnacle of our sport.
“As a community-based club with development of junior sailors one of our key focus areas, this Olympic visit will give our sailors an understanding of the journey to become an Olympian and potentially inspire the next batch of home-grown Olympians.
“The first ever Australian representative in the Women’s Formula Kite event in Paris, Breiana Whitehead, started her competitive sailing journey at our club, and it would be great to think that there could be other members that follow in her shoes because of this visit,” he finished.
Australian Sailing would like to thank all those who entered, and hoped that regardless of the outcome, the Sailing community is inspired by the incredible sailors who represented our country at Paris 2024.
