Who’s in Charge? Navigator gets to touch the Helm

Published Fri 26 Jul 2019

Last weekend the CPYC State Championship Time Trial Heat 3 was held at South of Perth Yacht Club.
A fleet of 48 boats braved the cold, windy and wet day. A big thank you goes to the check boats, especially the smaller uncovered tinnies, bobbing around at anchor recording the times in such conditions.

Four, three, two, one, BOOOM! A unique countdown style helped ‘Dalusional’ boom on time at five marks and was just one second off on the other six. Congratulations goes to Troy Dalglish and fill in navigator, Victoria ‘Boomer’ Blanckensee, winning first place with just six points lost. CYC’s, Paul and Mairead Hodgson aboard ‘Liquid Asset 2’ were second on eight points and John and Lynne Cooper on ‘Purrfect’, third with nine points.

This Thursday the roles are reversed. The Navigator gets to fulfil a once in a year opportunity to touch the helm in the Seafarer’s Measure event on this afternoon. It’s always a laugh and wouldn’t you just love to be a fly on the canopy with some of the teams. Today the Skipper takes their rightful spot in the re-run of the Bob Blanckensee trophy from 10am. Postponed from earlier in the season due to bad weather. Full results and photos at sopyc.com.au
