Weather forecast perfect for season opening
Published Thu 23 May 2019
The season is about to start this weekend and the Race Officer is squeezing in just one more holiday the week before their busy schedule begins for the 2019 Cruising & Power Yacht Committee of YWA State Championships.
The CPYC appointed South of Perth Yacht Club as the organising authority for this year’s events with State Heat 1 taking place today. With a positive weather outlook, it should be a beautiful opening to the season! Very different boat styles and speeds, ranging from 6 to 12 knots, goes to prove that any boat and crew can compete and even win during these time trial events.
The course will take the fleet from Burnside Spit near Claremont Yacht Club down to the old Swan Brewery and back to finish out front of the Perth Flying Squadron.
Continued support from key vessels like Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Clubs ‘Stramash’ ensures their fellow club members continue to feature and experience good fortunes. CYC has a strong field of 14, as Royal Perth Yacht Club re-sparks their power program with eight boats. With South of Perth’s all-powerful teams like former Club and State Champion Brett Morrison away on a two-year cruise on the other side of the Pacific, current Club and State Champion Troy Dalglish leads the charge with John Cooper’s ‘Purrfect’ and Guy Skinner’s little ‘Thanet’.
Time Trialling starts at 2 pm today with a race a month till September. All results on sportspage.com.au.
