The largest fleets were in the ILCA Laser and Optimist class fleets.
Three Victorians finished in the top 5 placings in the 33 boat ILCA4 fleer, with Aidan Simmons 1st, Riley Cantwell 3rd, and Angus McIntyre 5th. In the 36 boat ILCA 6 event the overall win went to a Turkish female sailor with Lachie Weber from Mornington 3rd on countback after finishing tied on points with Mara Stransky, Australia's Tokyo women's Laser Olympic representative. The largest rig ILCA 7's was won by Matt Wearn, Australia's Tokyo gold medallist. In a competitive fleet of 20 ILCA7's, Mornington's Jack Eickmeyer, the Australia's single-handed representative at the 2022 Youth Worlds finished 12th overall in his first national level ILCA7 regatta.
In the Optimist open event for junior sailors, the three podium positions were taken by Victorian sailors, with Callum Simmons the overall winner, Augustus Buividas 2nd and Jorja Mahoney third.
There were top results by some Victorian sailors in a couple of other international classes, Tess Lloyd and Laura Harding skippered the first two boats in the nine boat 49er FX Skiff class. Philip Cripsey won both the IQFoil Youth Slalom and IQFoil Youth events.
The training and overseas regatta sailing of our Victorian sailors in 2022 is shining through and we look forward to good performances at upcoming international championships and at Sail Melbourne in the late December - January period.
