Australian Sailing is mourning the passing of sailing great, Ron Jenyns, who passed away on Tuesday, 5 November.
A highly regarded and respected member of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron (RQYS), as well as among the Finn Association in particular, Jenyns was a three-time Olympian in the Finn class.
In addition to his international achievements, Jenyns contributed greatly on home waters, being named Australian Champion in the International Finn Class on 11 occasions.
Karen Baldwin, CEO of RQYS, said Ron was an incredibly valued member of the squadron’s community.
“Ron was an exceptional Finn Sailor, having been crowned the Australian Champion over many years as well as placing fourth at the Olympics in 1960 and 1968,” said Baldwin.
“Whilst passionate about sailing, Ron was also an avid Marlin fisherman and spent many happy times with his son Peter up in the far north Queensland fishing grounds.”
A cherished member of the RQYS community for many, many years, Baldwin said the community is in mourning.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to Ron’s family at this sad time,” she said.
His son, Peter Jenyns, also a 20-year RQYS member, is yet unsure of plans regarding a funeral or memorial service. Please contact RQYS for more. Please contact RQYS for more.
