Published Fri 01 May 2020
The next chapter in Australia’s storied trans-Tasman rivalry with New Zealand will be written this June, with our top eSailors set to take on our counterparts from the other side of the ditch.
After the announcement of the Zhik Australian eSailing Challenge last week, Australian Sailing is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the Zhik trans-Tasman eSailing Championships in conjunction with Yachting New Zealand.
The top six finishers in the Zhik Australian eSailing Challenge will be selected to represent Australia against the top six Kiwi eSailors in a virtual showdown that will take place on the weekend of 5-7 June.
Australian Sailing and Yachting New Zealand would like to thank our partners at Zhik for their support of the event. Zhik are official partners of both the Australian Sailing Team and the NZL Sailing Team, providing two of the leading national sailng teams with world-class technical sailing apparel.
To be eligible to represent Australia in the trans-Tasman eSailing Championships your club must register to participate in the Zhik Australian eSailing National Challenge, and you must then make your way through the Club, State and National Challenge regattas.
The regatta will take place on Virtual Regatta, a digital sailing platform that puts you at the helm of a range of inshore yachts.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for sailors around the country to now not only represent their club, but also their state and now country against some of the best international eSailors,” said Australian Sailing’s Performance Director Iain Murray.
“Australia has a proud record of international success in sailing, and we are sure it will continue here with our best eSailors at the trans-Tasman eSailing Championship.”
