The Carnarvon Wolf
Published Wed 01 Aug 2018
Always a pleasure to talk with our outlying clubs, this week was the Carnarvon Yacht Club as they are hosting the inaugural Horizon Power Wolf Lantzberg Regatta next weekend on the 11th and 12th August.
Club General Manager Jim Williams announces, “The regatta celebrates the revival in off the beach sailing at the club.” A return to greatness is in the breeze to follow Past Commodore Ben Dei Giudices’ several Windrush State Titles and a club ending decline in participation since the early 2000’s.
Past Commodores Chris Hutchinson and Lee Wright have spent the last three years leading the charge to revive off the beach sailing with the club now sailing regularly Sunday afternoons with try sailing sessions. “Many newcomers have not sailed before and the regatta celebrates the achievements of both individuals and the club” Mr Williams continued.
Starting on Friday night with a welcoming BBQ and live music with sails hoisted early Saturday morning. Truly a local event, the aptly named Community Spirit is hoping to break ground dredging the restrictive sandbar the same day and the Carnarvon Medical Centre have donated prizes including awards for “Best Dressed Skipper” and “Most Elegant Sailing!”.
