Sport and Recreation - COVID-19 update - Border bubble

Published Thu 13 Aug 2020

To our sport and recreation community,

You would be aware of recent announcements from Queensland Health regarding the classification of all of New South Wales (NSW) and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) as Covid-19 hotspots from 1:00am on Saturday 8 August 2020. As such, the Queensland border will be closed to anyone who has been in NSW or ACT and other declared hotspots in the last 14 days. The state of Victoria remains a hotspot.  People who have been in a hotspot in the last 14 days will only be able to enter Queensland if they are a returning Queensland resident or required to enter for a limited range of essential reasons. Queensland residents returning to Queensland from a hotspot must quarantine for 14 days on entering Queensland, in government arranged accommodation and at their own expense unless exceptional circumstances apply.

You may also be aware that the Queensland Government has also established a ‘border bubble’ between the Gold Coast and the Tweed Shire that permits residents on either side of the Queensland/NSW border to travel between the two communities.

Sport and active recreation organisations must continue to comply with the relevant Industry COVID-Safe Plan. The intent of these Industry Plans is to facilitate conduct of sport and recreation activity within a safe environment amidst the Covid-19 pandemic as well as minimising the risk of community transmission of the virus.

Sport and Recreation is aware of several requests for the relocation of fixtures including NSW-based teams to within the border bubble. Please note that such actions are strongly discouraged and not considered to align with the intent of the Covid-safe Industry Plans. Again, we are dealing with an unprecedented health pandemic and the priority must be to keep Queenslanders safe.
