South of Perth Yacht Club holds annual Ti-Tu Trophy

Published Fri 05 Jul 2019

South of Perth Yacht Club will hold the annual Ti-Tu Trophy - an event commemorating the fine steam powered vessel built in 1901 for WA’s first Attorney-General, Septimus Burt.

Visitors to the Fremantle Maritime Museum would have seen the steam launch Ti-Tu on display and at twelve metres in length, it’s hard to miss.

The boat remained in the Burt family until the 1960’s when it served briefly as a Garden Island ferry, before being purchased by SoPYC member Frank Marchant in 1964.

Frank inaugurated the now annual time trial event in its honour, commemorating the fine example of WA craftsmanship.

So, it is fitting that the event named in her honour is open to time trial exponents from all clubs.

A fleet of more than fifty boats have nominated this year and will make a grand spectacle on the Swan River as they pass by Mounts Bay Road, returning to Coffee Point to finish.

So pick your viewing along the Swan or head to the club for presentations.
