South Australian Sailors chasing LA2028

Published Thu 06 Mar 2025

In March 2025, Ben Hinks and Fallon Katz from the Brighton & Seacliff Yacht Club will be heading to Europe to compete in the 470 dinghy to start their campaign towards the LA 2028 Olympics.

Ben Hinks said “It’s an exciting time for us heading into a new Olympic Quad and keen to start working hard towards the next Olympics”

The first event on the calendar will be the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Regatta, held in Palma, Mallorca in Spain from the 28th of March until the 5th of April.

This event is known as one of the biggest sailing events on the Olympic classes calendar and will be one of the first major events held after the Paris Olympics.

Ben and Fallon are excited to get racing on the Bay of Palma come the end of March and see how they line up against the international competition.

The focus to learn as much as possible and gain as much experience as possible, as well as it being a selection opportunity to the Australian Sailing Pathways Team.

AUS22 will then head to Hyeres in France for the French Olympic Week where they will again compete against the best in the world from the 19th to 26th of April. Ben said, it will likely be a similar line up of competitors but a change in venue provides a different racetrack to see how we compare in different conditions. This second event provides us with the opportunity to implement our learnings from the first event, as well as providing more experience racing against this fleet.

Ben and Fallon currently have an Australian Sports Foundation Page setup, which allows for tax-deductible donations to help support the journey towards the LA 2028 Olympics and appreciate any support.
