SKP Compete in Tasmania

Published Wed 13 Sep 2023

Xavier McLachlan (skipper) writes, 'Last weekend, RSYS sent one SKP team to the Australian Open Match Racing Championship hosted by the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania (RYCT). The team of Thomas Rees, Katina Cassimaty, James Hayhoe and I, landed in Hobart on Friday and went straight to the Club to get in some training on the fleet of Elliott 6s in a lovely 10 knots from the SE.

Saturday was a tougher day, with the team recovering from their weight drop, but we were all a lot happier after a big breakfast and ready to get into racing. After completing 2 races in a light 7 knot NW, the breeze completely dropped out and we had to postpone racing. We had all the Elliotts tied up behind the start boat and were enjoying some Boston Buns that the Race Committee provided, and were talking about the racing with the other competitors. After the breeze filled in to a lovely 12 knots from the SE, we got back into racing.

Sunday saw us finish the Round Robin series in a solid 8 knots from the NW and move into the Petite Final series. We made it a clean sweep and won both the races, putting us in 3rd for the event.'
