She Sails

The fast pace of life and plethora of choice people have is not slowing down, so increase participation and entice future members, Australian Sailing and associated clubs are increasingly becoming more and more creative with initiatives and targeted programs. Princess Royal Sailing Club in Albany continue to have amazing success with the She Sails program.
The She Sails program is designed to promote and celebrate female participation in the sport of sailing. Provide new and existing female sailors with the opportunity to enjoy activities at their local sailing club with like-minded people. Provide clubs with visual materials and case studies to help grow female participation in recreational and competitive sailing and develop a platform to feature female-focused events and programs across the country.
Mid 2019 PRSC ran a Keelboat Instructor course and as a result now have 11 instructors of which over a third are female. The club has used organised events such as Twilight Sailing, Discover Sailing and Lear to Sail to promote the She Sails program. They have developed such a robust model they are now having proven success in their ‘He Sails’ program, in a stereotypical male dominated sport.
Prior to August 2019 the club had no instructors. They can now boast 11 Instructors and 25 graduates in Start Crewing and Start Helming courses. PRSC also have a strong link with Sailability, a program designed specifically for members of the public with disabilities. Stirling effort Princess Royal and a strong start to the new decade.
