Scouts Are OutThere Sailing
Published Thu 16 Jan 2020
Scouts Qld and Southport Yacht Club joined forces to run OutThere Sailing for the annual National Scouts Camp by offering morning sailing activities over 4 days.
Peter Gould, from Scouts Qld, said that by outsourcing some of the outdoor activities the organisation did not have the costs of maintaining a centre and equipment that would not see regular use. The Oxenford Watersports Centre provided great support, equipment and a safe lake venue as well as a café and other facilities.
“We can organise the logistics and leave the rest in the capable hands of professionals who run sailing activities all the time”.
Matthew Dickinson, who manages the activities at Oxenford, was pleased to offer the activities for the scouts in the new RS Quests and feels that the more action seen on the water will promote the club and the sport of sailing.
“The benefit of the OutThere Sailing Program is the flexibility, which enables us to custom fit activities to suit community organisations”.
