Australian Sailing at the Inaugural School Sport WA’s 2021 Teachers’ Games
Published Fri 15 Oct 2021
School Sport WA delivered the inaugural Teachers’ Games 2021 from, 5 to 7 October 2021 at Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club. Australian Sailing was pleased to be involved with training and delivery of Recreational Skippers Tickets (RSTs) and a Discover Sailing experience for teachers.
On Tuesday morning, RST Assessor Brian Edwards delivered a RST theory presentation session to nine teachers. Brian showcased his exclusive online video study material and discussed boating safety with the group, who then had an opportunity to complete the theory assessment. Six teachers had an opportunity to squeeze their practical assessments during their jam-packed schedules, the remaining three teacher’s will complete their practical assessments during October.
Three teachers enjoyed the experience of discovering, or re-discovering for some, sailing in Mandurah’s Pacer dinghies on Wednesday afternoon. Lynda from School Sport WA joined Club Services Officer Jenn Suffield on the RIB to support the sailors. Conditions were challenging with a tricky breeze direction; the group enjoyed the sail and the formal medal presentation ceremony on the beach steps. To celebrate the afternoon of sailing, the group headed out on the RIB into the Mandurah Canals for a sightseeing adventure.
The Teachers’ Games was a great opportunity for Australian Sailing to connect with the WA school community, with positive feedback received from those involved. The 2022 School Sport WA Teachers’ Games are scheduled for Tuesday 4 to Thursday 6 October 2022, Australian Sailing looks forward to once again being involved.
Thanks to Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club and Brian Edwards for their support over the Teachers’ Games 2021.
