School Holiday Fun at Maylands
Published Thu 23 Sep 2021
The Maylands Yacht Club has taken full advantage of the recent sunshine after a very wet July to get their laser fleet into shipshape condition for the upcoming season. In addition, the club announced last week a return of the popular Junior Introduction to Sailing course. Open to all school aged sailors over five days during the second week of the school holidays. Bookings are essential for the Monday, October 4 to Friday, October 8 course.
Sailing is a great way to stay active both physically, mentally and socially during the upcoming holidays. Using the club’s Mirror dinghies, these very forgiving and easy to learn boats are perfect for participants to learn how to rig the boats, understanding the wind and learning to sail a marked course. The following weekend the club will hold their Club Opening Day on Sunday October 10.
Maylands Yacht Club is situated on the Swan River and is the most upriver club in Western Australia. Located less than 5km from the Perth CBD the Club hosts a menagerie of single and two handed dinghies. Conditions are typically flat water with varying breezes tending to be strongest during the Summer Sailing Season which provides excellent test for helmsmanship, skill and tactics inside tight courses.
