We at Sandringham Yacht Club hope this message finds you and your family well in these difficult times.

I am sure like us, every Victorian cannot wait to be back on the water enjoying some long overdue time in their boat with most of winter and spring seeing sailors unable to sail due to lock down restrictions.

Historically, Sail Sandy is one of the first regattas to kick off the sailing season in a normal year. However, for obvious reasons, this is not the case this year. We wanted to ensure Victorian sailors didn't out on one of the biggest OTB regattas in the sailing season so the Sail Sandy Regatta has been postponed to later in the sailing season. We are hopeful that this will enable us to run the event in the normal fashion, restriction free!

So Sail Sandy 2020 now becomes Sail Sandy 2020/21 with the regatta now penciled in for Saturday 20 & Sunday 21 February 2021. This means sailors have four months to get back in the boat and to prepare for a great weekend of beautiful February weather. Don’t worry though, from October 2021, we’ll be back to normal!

With many classes hosting their state championships over the March long weekend, this will be an ideal opportunity to fine tune your performance. If you or someone else you know isn't quite ready for the open course, we have our green fleet course running again this year. This will be open to Optimists (plastic or fibreglass), Open Skiffs, Minnows and Cadets. Our green fleet format will include coached racing in a fun and sheltered sailing environment in under 15 knots.

For now, make sure you pencil Sail Sandy into your calendar for 20-21 February 2021 and stay tuned for further information including the Notice of Race which will be published in the not too distant future.
