Sail Melbourne’s New Joint Venture
Published Fri 09 Apr 2021
Sail Melbourne the premier Olympic and Invited Classes Regatta, will be hosted in 2022 by Royal Brighton Yacht Club (RBYC) and Royal Yacht Club of Victoria (RYCV) on January 13th -17th.
The two clubs will come together for the first time as host clubs and Organising Authority across the two venues.
RBYC General Manager Hannah Catchpole says the club is delighted to be able to announce the ‘Save the Date’ for Sail Melbourne 2022. “Although a while away until the event is held it is great to be able to look forward to future sailing events and put the disappointment of having to cancel the 2021 regatta due to Covid-19 restrictions,” Catchpole said. “RBYC is equally as excited to be working in partnership with RYCV to continue to deliver a world class event that is synonymous with excellent sailing in Victoria. Both Clubs will work hard to stage an event for Sailing Clubs in Victoria to be proud of.”
In recent years, RYCV has placed a large focus on youth events hosting the 2020 International Optimist Australian Championships and the 2021 Victorian Youth Championships and Coaching Clinic.
“Our Club has been an integral part of sailing on Port Phillip for 168 years and we are looking forward to the joint collaboration with Royal Brighton Yacht Club in continuing the sport of sailing through the Sail Melbourne Regatta,” RYCV General Manager Michael Neumann said.
“This partnership will strengthen the great working relationship that RYCV and RBYC already have while providing an excellent sailing regatta for the wider sailing community.”
Established in 1992, it has become the largest annual Off the Beach regatta in the southern hemisphere and is critical to the growth and success of junior and youth sailors, enabling them to race alongside their Olympic heroes.
Notice of Race and online entries will open the first week of July via the Sail Melbourne website. For more information on Sail Melbourne visit: www.sailmelbourne.com.au
