South Australian Club and Class representatives gathered for the 2024 Sailing Summit on Saturday, 29th June, at Brighton & Seacliff Yacht Club.
The winter weather outside made for the perfect day inside in the warmth of the Brighton & Seacliff Yacht Club, with great food and great people. Representatives from 10 clubs and 9 class associations, including Australian CEO Ben Houston and Australian Sailing General Manager Ben Callard, joined us.
Following a tea and coffee, it was on to an Australian Sailing Update from AS CEO Ben Houston and a local SA Update from AS SA GM Kylie Baker. Australian Sailing National Participation Manager Ian Leeson presented on the Australian Sailing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy.
The topics of the event were collaboration, Partnership, Participation and retention:
- Adelaide Sailing Club Commodore Peter Royle presented on Partnerships & Collaboration for the 2024 ILCA Regattas, including an insight into the planning and delivery of the 2024 ILCA World Championships.
- Australian Sharpie President Harry Fisher presented on participation and membership retention, sharing the winning formula for the Australian Sharpie Class's successes.
- Proud to Play GM Christine Grange presented on Diversity, Equity, and inclusion, followed by a workshop in this space.
Thank you to all who attended the event. It certainly was a fantastic day and an excellent opportunity for our SA Clubs and Classes to come together. Thank you to our excellent presenters and the Brighton & Seacliff Yacht Club for hosting the event.
