Record Breaking Pace to Mandurah
Published Mon 04 Apr 2022
Last weekend the Ocean Racing WA hosted the Mandurah Weekender consisting of two passage races. The Halls Head Ocean Race down on Saturday and the Point Robert Return Ocean Race on Sunday. Conditions were perfect with a steady easterly which rocketed the yachts down the coast. Wind later swung into the South West by mid afternoon making it a quicker finish for the later arrivals. Although Provisional Results are subject to a protest, ‘Enterprise Next Generation’ of Anthony Kirke and Andrew Nuttman arrived just after 1 pm for a late lunch, securing them first place in IRC Division 1.
However, David Davenport and crew aboard ‘Crush’ may have crushed the race record with a blistering elapsed time of under three hours, securing second place on corrected time. ‘Weapon Of Choice’ and crew weren’t far behind and took out third. Congratulations to ‘Salacia II’ of Ross Norgard held out ‘Atomic Blonde’ and ‘Kraken’ in IRC Division 2. Point Robert Return Ocean Race will be available on website.
The Siska trophy and 2022 Offshore Summer Sailing Season is drawing to a close with only a few races left. With to top spots still in hot contention it is sure to be an exciting race to the finish. Visit oceanracingwa.com.au for all the results and outcome of the protest.
