Queensland Regional Managers Update – LIVE TOP 5 - August 2019

- Sail CQ Club Challenge
Sail CQ Club Challenge is an Australian Sailing Initiative that is to encourage more participation at already existing events and to foster a greater sailing community that supports cooperation between clubs. This event is open to all Off the Beach Classes and all age groups and entry to the Series is FREE. There is one drop available for the Series and Prizes will be awarded to the first three competitors in each Division and the winning Club will be awarded the Club of the series trophy. The Series presentation will be conducted at the final event hosted by the Keppel Bay Sailing Club on the 3rd May 2020. Check out the Notice of Series for more information.

- SheSails Leadership Workshop
Developing Leaders who turn ideas into actions.
Come and join the She Sails Queensland Networking Group at this She Sails funded event on either Saturday 19th October or Sunday 20th October at the Australian Sailing building in Manly.
These leadership days will be filled with laughter, networking and surprising yourself with what you are capable of. About how you can help the sport of sailing with the skills you already have and why you are so important to the future. You will come away from the weekend with the confidence and knowledge of what path you can take to make the most impact.
Saturday 19th October - open to girls between the ages of 16 and 21
Sunday 20th October - open to women over 22 years

- Queensland Sailing Awards winners
The Queensland Sailing community celebrated its night of nights with glitz and glamour at the 2019 Queensland Sailing Awards. Hosted by the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron on Saturday 21st July 120 guests celebrated the success, achievements and contributions of 63 finalists across 17 award categories. While each and every finalists was a very worth winner and all deserving of the acknowledgement and congratulations there could only be one winner for each category.

- Queensland Clubs Conference Wrap up
Over 60 participants from 53% of the Queensland Sailing Clubs participated in this years Queensland Clubs Conference making it the biggest conference yet. It was a great weekend full of presentations from industry experts, case studies of success stories shared by fellow clubs and insights and updates on relevant topics from key Australian Sailing Staff. Positive feedback from many participants has already been received claiming it to be the best conference they have attended in the last 5 years.

- Yachting Queensland General Meeting Wrap up
On Sunday 21st July 2019, during the 2019 Clubs Conference hosted at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, Yachting Queensland conducted a General Meeting with two very big key agenda items. To change the Club Affiliation Fee System and to adopt a new Constitution.
Pleasingly, with close to 50 representatives in the room and a poll conducted for each motion the meeting resulted in the new national Club affiliation system being adopted by Queensland Clubs and the approval of a new Constitution for Yachting Queensland.

As a new initiative to keep our sailing club community informed I will aim to communicate through the Monthly Club News letter my top 5 topics for clubs to be aware of – LIVE TOP 5. I encourage club committees to table these at your club committee and/or sailing committee meetings and ensure your club is 1) aware of these topics, 2) taking advantage of or contributing from the information by taking steps within your club to continually improve your club activities and environment.
