Queensland Regional Managers Update July 2020
Published Sun 12 Jul 2020
Update from Regional Manager Ben Callard:
- COVID Safe Sailing
As you would be aware Queensland has progressed through the Roadmap to Easing Queensland’s Restrictions to Stage 3 which commenced from Friday July 3. The commencement of Stage 3 allows for the resumption of activity including competition and physical contact is permitted with more people permitted to gather.
Industry COVID Safe plans have been updated to align to Stage 3 and the resumption of competition and physical contact. However, further amendments will be made to the plans to eliminate any confusion and will be re-uploaded to the Return to Play - Industry COVID Safe Plan website shortly.
Further information:
- Events organised and run by sport, fitness or active recreation organisations/ providers complying with an approved COVID Safe Plan do not require additional approval outlined in the Industry Framework for Events. However, organisations and providers should also review and consider the Key Public Health Principles and Event Specific Public Health Strategies set out in the Industry Framework for Events.
- More information on the relevant approvals can be found in the following Factsheet: “ORGANISING AN EVENT: ADVICE FOR EVENT ORGANISERS HAVING THE APPROPRIATE DOCUMENTATION AND APPROVALS IN PLACE.
- “Field of Play” definition is extended to include change rooms, and in the case of sailing rigging areas.
If your club is intending to host a large event, I encourage you to get in contact with your Club Services Officer to assist and ensure you are following the COVID Safe requirements.

- New She Sails Resources
Thanks to a dedicate group of She Sails representatives and staff our She Sails website has been bolstered with a huge range of new resources. (www.shesails.org.au)
“How She Sails” – Showcases stories that are real. They have been provided by women and girls from across the country who all love the sport and recreation of sailing. Some are officials, instructors, competitors, parents, or social sailors. They have chosen to share their stories in the hope that it may inspire and motivate more women and girls to choose to discover sailing. They are confident that if more women and girls get involved with sailing, they will fall in love with it like they have.
One of my favourites is an education infographic on the benefits of having women and girls involved in sailing - https://www.shesails.org.au/resources/infographics/
There is also more information on becoming a She Sails Club Rep, case studies, marketing toolkit, how to guides and activities ideas.
Action item for clubs:
Increasing female participating in sailing is critical the ongoing sustainability of sailing nationally and for your club. I recommend your club committee review the available resources and select a She Sails Club Representative asap.
If you have any questions about these items or more, please contact one of our Queensland team members below.
