Port Lincoln Yacht Club to host its 39th Sharpie Frostbite Regatta
Published Thu 01 Jun 2023
It might be the coldest time of the year, but this year’s Sharpie Frostbite Regatta at the Port Lincoln Yacht Club over the June long weekend is going to be red hot.
A total of 15-20 boats are expected to attend to compete in the iconic three-person class’s most celebrated winter regatta, which has now been running for nearly four decades.
Reigning champions Tony Turton, Matt Hansen and Andy Dyer on Under the Radar are teaming up again and will look to go back-to-back following an inspiring win in last year’s regatta.
But Turton will have his work cut out for him with reigning national champion Alex Blacker returning to Frostbite after a second last year, with regular forwardhand Harry Fisher and ring-in sheethand Tom Manhood on board.
The most successful Frostbite champion of all time, as well as the most successful national champion, Mal Higgins will also be making a return with Andrew Chisholm and Sam Sanderson as Higgins looks to add a 10th Frostbite crown to his name.
There is also plenty of local talent with stalwarts Phil Kelly, Terry Carlson and Stuart de la Perrelle all expected to be helming and in the mix on home waters.
The Port Lincoln Yacht Club has also prepared a bumper social calendar with a seafood extravaganza on the Saturday night highlighting the town’s iconic local produce, as well as plenty of time to socialise and enjoy each other’s company at Australia’s most welcoming country yacht club.
To enter the regatta, just give Andy Dyer the heads up you are coming by emailing andy.dyer@epseafoods.com.au and then just roll up on the day.
