Port Kembla Sailing Club's Kembla Klassic run and won for another year
Published Tue 03 Dec 2024
Forty-eight entries contested this year's Kembla Klassic on Lake Illawarra was dominated by four multi-hull divisions - F18s, Nacras, Paper Tigers, and Wetas, along with the Sharpies. The racing on Saturday became a battle against the elements as the solid breeze kept building across the three races. Sunday was a different story with the promised NE'er fading to around 5 knots just after the start.
The Kembla Klassic attracts entries from across the state and interstate. As a sought-after venue for state championships, the event is ideally placed before the Christmas nationals frenzy. The club offers fantastic facilities, on and off the water, with a generous, grassed rigging area, plenty of parking and space for camping. The Saturday evening barbeque is always well attended. The canteen and bar keep sailors well-fed and refreshed.
Port Kembla Sailing Club is a volunteer-run, family-oriented sailing club. There were around 30 volunteers who made this event possible. Again, we thank you for making it possible.
Off-the-beach associations are welcome to express their interest in Kembla Klassic 2025.
