Podium Finish for Queensland siblings at the Formula Kitefoil World Championships
Published Tue 14 May 2019
Queenslanders Brieanna and Scott Whitehead competed last week at the Formula Kitefoil World Championships in Italy.
Racing in an international fleet in the new Olympic Games discipline, Brieanna finished third overall in the Women’s Division and Scott finished third in the Under 19s Division.
They also placed sixth overall in the Mixed Relay which is the new event they hope to contest in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Their coach, Australia’s Ryan Palk, said the two youth have been training hard while juggling their school studies and a tight performance budget. “Their results are very promising for the future,” Palk said. “ The best aspect is that this event is the first actual gender-equal racing discipline. Male and female performance are completely a 50/50 contribution towards the overall result.”
Their next event is the World Beach Games which are being held in San Diego, USA, in October.
