Sail Melbourne returns to Port Phillip this January
Published Mon 23 Aug 2021
This summer will see the return of Australia’s the pinnacle Olympic and invited class regatta, Sail Melbourne on Port Phillip. The event will run from 13-17 January 2022, supported by the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria and Royal Brighton Yacht Club.
While Sail Melbourne is renowned for the elite competition within the iconic Olympic classes such as the Finn, Laser, 470, Nacra 17 and 49er, this year’s regatta will also incorporate the Australian Para Sailing Championships in the 2.4mR, Hansa 303 one and two person, and Skud 18 classes.
Entries have now opened, and a convenient online entry and payment system is live. This year there is also a refund and cancellation plan in place due to the uncertainty of the pandemic, meaning sailors can have the confidence to enter early.
Royal Yacht Club of Victoria General Manager Michael Neumann said the club was thrilled to be a part of such a prestigious event, which would not only showcase the facilities at RYCV and Royal Brighton Yacht Club, but also the fantastic sailing on offer on Port Phillip.
“This event will showcase our sport right here in Melbourne and give both our sailing and wider communities a fantastic opportunity to benefit from the increased activity in the Bay.
The event will be a proud return to major events for sailing in Victoria, which was disrupted last season due to COVID-19 restrictions.
“It will be a hive of activity, so don’t miss the opportunity to hang out in the dinghy park with sailing champions of yesterday and tomorrow,” Neumann said.
