Published Thu 01 Sep 2022
The inaugural South Australian Women's Keelboat Regatta (SAWKR) will be held over the October long weekend at the Cruising Yacht Club of South Australia (CYCSA) and will be officially launched this coming Sunday 21 August at the CYCSA.
This three-day regatta is for women who love to sail and enjoy the company, competition and camaraderie of other female sailors.
CYCSA is hosting the Regatta together with its partners in event operations, the Royal South Australian Yacht Club (RSAYS) and the Port Adelaide Sailing Club (PASC).
Sunday's launch celebrates SAWKR as an exciting new contribution to women's sailing in South Australia and to the national calendar of women's sailing. It also shares the story of our regatta logo, developed by Kaurna, Narungga, Ngarrindjeri artist Jardi Welch.
The Regatta has divisions for large and small keelboats, J24s and a one design division for Elliot 7s held on the Gulf of St Vincent. Trailerables will race on the Port River.
We are pleased to welcome respected Race Officer Lou Hutton, to officiate for the Regatta - Lou is based with the Royal Melbourne Yacht Club and brings extensive national and international experience to our event.
There is a lot of interest from South Australian women in the first SAWKR, and word is spreading to teams around Australia as well. It will be a huge amount of fun for competitors, volunteers, and spectators - on and off the water.
