New Australian Sailing learn to Wing program coming soon!
Published Wed 22 Feb 2023
Australian Sailing is soon to launch its new learn to wing program, aimed at introducing beginners to the wing and developing the fundamental skills needed to latter progress to the WingFOIL with confidence.
The program will be available through the network of Discover Sailing Centres and delivered by Australian Sailing accredited Instructors who have completed the new learn to wing Instructor endorsement.
The format of the learn to wing instructor endorsement, will be a simple online course similar to the existing OutThere Sailing endorsements, and the Foundation Coach course, and can be undertaken by any current instructor in either the dinghy or windsurfing programs, it will be free to complete and will take approximately 1-2 hours, at the learner’s own pace.
Instructors will also be provided with access to a range of resources available via the Instructor resources pages, which have been developed specifically to assist with the delivery of the program.
Suitable equipment for Discover Sailing Centres and their instructors to deliver the program is available now, through Australian Sailing’s partnership with North Action Group. In addition, many Discover Sailing Centres who are looking to deliver the new learn to wing program, already have stable windsurf boards or SUPs which can be utilised for this program, meaning all that would be required is the purchase of suitable wings.
The learn to wing program will consist of a learn to wing experience which will be a 3.5 hour session, as well as the full learn to wing course which is delivered across 9 hours.
No previous sailing experience is necessary for participants to take part in a learn to wing course or experience, which will greatly assist with attracting new club members looking to get involved with this fast growing discipline and encourage more growth at clubs across the country.
If your club or Discover sailing Centre is interested in delivering learn to wing courses in 2023 and beyond, please get in touch with your local club support officer.
