MG14 National Championships return to Darling Point Sailing Squadron

Published Thu 07 Dec 2023

Waterloo Bay will be the battleground where the nation's finest MG14 sailors vie for the title of MG14 National Champion.

Darling Point Sailing Squadron, Manly, will host the much-anticipated return to Queensland of the MG14 National Championships.

The MG14 fleet at Darling Point has been growing strongly since Adam Walsh and Katie Bundred started sailing their MG14 with the club in 2018.

Now there are 10 Queensland crews planning to wrest the National Title back north of the border.

With last year’s champions, Kurt and Kristy Warner not defending their title. Key contenders include Katie Bundred and Adam Walsh from Darling Point SS (2021-22 Champions), Jim (Kero) Kerrison and Deb Stenning from Port Macquarie SC, Jack Andrews from St George SC and Drew van Ryn from Cronulla SC. While these crews will all be sailing in Tiger hulls, there should also be at least six of the new Midnight hulls competing.

There will also be a classic division for boats not of the more recent hull shapes, won last year by Arron Gore in Flame Boy. The sailing runs from 1-5 January.
