Dear Members,
YACHTING QUEENSLAND MEMBERS DECIDE ON A VOTE FOR THE FUTURE
On Tuesday 19th November 2024, Yachting Queensland Limited held a Special General Meeting to vote on the winding up of Yachting Queensland Limited and to form a Regional Advisory Committee.
The board was satisfied that they have given ample time for consultation and discussion. All clubs and classes have had the opportunity to provide input, and the decision to hold this vote reflects our confidence that the process has been thorough and inclusive.
The Yachting Queensland board was in favour of both the Special Resolution and the Ordinary Resolution and were pleased that members felt the same way with both passing by a clear majority.
Special Resolution:
THAT the members of Yachting Queensland Limited resolve to:
Voluntarily deregister Yachting Queensland Limited and transfer any Yachting Queensland Limited assets to Australian Sailing Limited. Any cash assets transferred will be identified as “Queensland Contributed Funds” in the Australian Sailing Accounts for use in Queensland.
In Favor: 79%
Against: 21%
Carried.
Ordinary Resolution:
The members subject the approval of the above special resolution, agree to the formation of a Regional Advisory Committee for Queensland, as per the rules of the Australian Sailing Limited Constitution, that maintains current levels of regional representation as outlined in the QLD Regional Advisory Charter.
In Favor: 88%
Against: 12%
Carried.
The board thanks all the clubs and class associations for being part of the conversation over the past two and a half years and for taking the time to be at the meeting in person or by providing a proxy vote. We thank those who have participated in this debate, for their engagement and commitment to the future of our sport.
As a result of the members’ decision:
- Yachting Queensland will commence de-registration.

- A QLD Regional Advisory Committee of Australian Sailing will be established.
- Yachting Queensland Limited surplus assets will be transferred to Australian Sailing and maintained exclusively for use within Queensland.
Action required by clubs
With the deregistration of Yachting Queensland Limited, the affiliation structure of sailing in Queensland will change. It is not possible to automatically transfer Membership of Yachting Queensland cannot be automatically transferred to Australian Sailing Ltd. To facilitate this change clubs will be required to complete a simple online process to formally apply for membership of Australian Sailing. Information will be provided at the appropriate time.
The process for the deregistration of Yachting Queensland will now commence and members will be updated at key milestones along the way.
