Maiden Departs
Published Wed 10 Apr 2019
After a busy week in Fremantle Maiden departed this week for Sydney, continuing their three-year 55,000 nautical mile journey to 25 destinations worldwide. Making a grand entrance is the right and prerogative of all ladies, including the all-female crew aboard Maiden, who arrived in Fremantle last week from the UK. The 58-foot Bruce Farr designed started life as DISQUE D'OR 3 in 1979. Skippered on their first leg from Sri Lanka by Australian Wendy Tuck, after 24 days at sea their arrival was plagued with a suspected engine fire which resulted in no power and requiring a tow to their berth at FSC.
Within hours of being ashore their message to “Empower, teach and mentor girls and/or promote, facilitate, lobby for or provide solutions which enable the education of girls not currently afforded that basic human right” was being heard.
The crew continue their journey to Sydney, New Zealand, Honolulu, Vancouver and beyond. Visit themaidenfactor.org for all the details.
