Love the Bay! Batemans Bay Regatta April 2020

Published Mon 10 Feb 2020

Batemans Bay Sailing Club is pleased to announce that Batemans Bay Marina is the new sponsor of this year's Batemans Bay Regatta to be held on the weekend Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 April.

According to BBSC's Commodore, Lachlan Brown "This year's regatta will be extra special. We know that the classes and clubs that make the Batemans Bay regatta their end-of-season celebration have a great time. But this year, we can guarantee that regatta entrants will be welcomed with open arms and gratitude by our local businesses and community."

The Batemans Bay Marina Regatta is the largest annual sailing event on the NSW South Coast. The regatta has been going for almost 40 years. Although the regatta is most popular with South Coast and Canberra sailors, contestants come from all over south-east Australia.

The regatta is open to all off-the-beach dinghies and catamarans as well as trailerable yachts and sports boats. Usually the Sharpie, Flying Dutchman, Tasar, Laser, Cherub, Taipan, Maricat and Hobie 16 classes are well represented. In past years we've also hosted some crowd attracting International Canoes, Hartley 16s and Norwalk Island Sharpies. Any class of boat with a fleet of five or more boats entered will race against each other for class based prizes. All other boats race in yardstick/CBH handicapped divisions.

Mast-up storage is available for larger entrants at the sailing club's boatyard. This allows for easy launching at the nearby, sheltered Hanging Rock boat ramp.

Batemans Bay is one of the best ocean sailing venues in NSW. We enjoy clean and uncrowded waters and competitors enjoy beautiful views of the bay and hinterland. The resident dolphins nearly always, and sometimes a seal or penguin, put in an appearance during the regatta. While the Batemans Bay Sailing Club is mainly keelboat based, most members of the club who are not competing will be helping to run the event in one capacity or another. For further information see the Notice of Race on the club's website.
