Life Skills

Published Thu 29 Aug 2019

Managing conflict and difficult people is a life skill that can be applied to any situation, including during sailing. This is why Australian Sailing along with the generous support of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries are holding a seminar at South of Perth Yacht Club this coming Tuesday, 3rd September from 5:15pm.

The Managing Conflict and Difficult People Seminar will provide insights into handling these situations on and off the water.

It’s not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’ you will be met with this clash. Whether you’re on a selection panel and selecting athletes to represent your fleet, club or nation, having a robust discussion about the Rules of Sailing and their interpretations or deciding where to go for dinner. Conflict is everywhere.

Come down to the free seminar to develop the skills to better prevent, manage and deal with conflict and difficult people.

Presented by Ian Crawford, the course will investigate strategies to:
• Identify conflict in its early stages before it erupts into crisis;
• Prevent conflict arising in the first place;
• Use verbal strategies and body language to diffuse conflict;
• Ask the one question that could stop conflict immediately;
• Deal with conflict on social media.
