Inviting Expressions of Interest for Nomination to International Roles
Published Wed 27 May 2020
Australian Sailing is looking to develop a broader base of people to help on working parties and committees in the Oceania region and World Sailing and are inviting expressions of interest from appropriately qualified persons.
Engagement with Oceania and World Sailing is an important body of work conducted by Australian Sailing and is principally done by its volunteers. There are many ad hoc working parties and constituted committees that provide an avenue for Australian Sailing to make its international contribution. The style of work done, and the subject matter can very greatly however all have the objective of improving sailing.

Appointments to World Sailing committee roles are made on a four-year cycle with the next elections to be conducted at the General Assembly of 2020. Under the World Sailing constitution and regulations committee members must be nominated by 1 August 2020.
The appointment of committee delegates to World Sailing is consistent with Australian Sailing’s strategic objectives and is also important to the Oceania region. Australian Sailing is considering what level of representation is consistent with the strategic priority and will look to make nominations accordingly.
World Sailing committee roles are a terrific opportunity to make the sport better globally. The volunteer commitment, however, is significant, carries a lot of responsibility, and is for a period of four years.
People with appropriate skills, experience, sailing network and availability should write to Australian Sailing with a brief expression of interest.
A strategic priority for World Sailing and Australian Sailing is to increase the number of women on working parties and committees at this level. World Sailing regulates this by providing guidance on the gender balance in nominations and subsequently in making appointments to committees. Australian Sailing strongly encourages women with an interest to contact us.
The information in the expression of interest should include:
• The committee/s or aspect of sailing they are interested in
• Sailing background; classes sailed and level of competition
• Career background; overview of business, vocation, or education
• Sport administration background; experience with class or club committees, or official roles
• Contact details
The identification and development of people who can play a role in these spaces is a process that is important to Australian Sailing, and expressions of interest should be submitted by 15 June 2020 to glen.stanaway@sailing.org.au.
