HMAS Perth Memorial Regatta 2021

Published Mon 01 Feb 2021

Nedlands Yacht Club proudly hosts the HMAS Perth Memorial Regatta in February each year to honour the memory of the HMAS PERTH which was lost in the battle of Sunda Strait on 1 March, 1942. This Regatta also provides a chance for all who enjoy the freedom of sailing to show their respects in a unique way.

This year the focus in the club house and for the boats sailing in the regatta is to display the individuals that were on the HMAS Perth.  Every boat that competes in the regatta will be given the card of a crew member that was on the HMAS Perth and be asked to sail in the memory of this person.  These same cards are displayed in the Club House for our guests to learn a little more about the stories of the individuals on the HMAS Perth now that all but one of the survivors has passed away.  "We remember them because their example of ordinary people  doing extraordinary things is our heritage."
