Girls to the Front

Published Wed 08 May 2019

This weekend the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club hosts the inaugural ‘Girls to the Front’ camp. An extension of the great work RFBYC and Australian Sailing are doing in the SHE SAILS program with SHE SAILS.

The Mission; to provide WA girls with a fun and rewarding experience whilst sailing and the potential pathways that lay ahead for them in our sport.

Whether they sail already or have never felt a true windswept hairdo, the 29er, 420, Laser 4.7 and Laser Radial fleet will be available. Who better to coach them than some of WA’s own stellar lady sailors, including four World Champions, an Olympic Gold Medalist, a Rio Olympian and too many national titles between them to count; Belinda Stowell, Chelsea Hall, Ella Clark, Hayley Clark, Shelley White.

The camp also doubles as a great opportunity for the girls to show off their skills and talents to the Western Australian Sailing Squad Coaches as well as learn a few new tricks from all involved.

The camp includes both on and off the water development to accompany the physical and mental attributes of sailing and fitness in general from WA Sailing Squad S&C Coach Brock Fleau.

A WA Sailing Squad initiative supported by the Western Australian Institute of Sport, Australian Sailing and Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, Fremantle Sailing Club, South of Perth Yacht Club, Hillarys Yacht Club and Royal Perth Yacht Club.
