Discover Sailing Days presented by SunSmart Update

The Discover Sailing Day presented by SunSmart commenced with East Fremantle Yacht Club on Sunday 23rd October. Since then, nine clubs and class associations have hosted Discover Sailing Days and Discover Sailing Days in conjunction with various events. Hosting the Discover Sailing Days in conjunction with national championships or race days allows the class association to entice new sailors into the fleet, be they experienced or not!

There are still a number of grants available for Clubs and Class Associations to avail of so be sure to contact Alex in the WA office about it! You can register for the SunSmart Grant by clicking HERE

The Australian Sailing WA office recently deployed one of their Club Support Officers (CSO) to Albany. The CSO instructed six participants on a Safety Boat Operators course. Each of the participants are volunteers at Princess Royal Sailing Club. The course is designed to equip Instructors, Coaches and Safety Boat operators with the knowledge and skills to assist racing fleets with recovery methods and safety management. Despite the course participants being experienced sailors and powerboat operators, they still learned a vast amount of knowledge from the course. They may have to never use the skills that they have learned, but if they do, they will have the necessary skills and knowledge!

All accredited Australian Sailing Instructors and Discover Sailing Centre Principals are invited and encouraged to attend.

The Training In Focus Live events bring together Instructors, Discover Sailing Centre Principals, Training Coordinators and Centre Administrators from across the State and are a terrific way to continue to develop your practical instructing skills, share best practice, gain valuable insights and knowledge through peer learning, and to stay updated on key topics or themes in relation to GROWING participation at your club or centre.

Accredited Instructors who attend the Training in Focus – Live event this year, will automatically have their qualifications extended for a further 12 months, assisting to further remove the barriers to reaccreditation.

2023 Instructor and Coach Course Update

The Australian Sailing WA Instructor course schedule kicked off this past weekend with an Assistant Instructor course held at the Royal Perth Yacht Club. All three of the course participants are now qualified Assistant Instructors for each of their respective clubs.

The instructor and coach courses are filling up with participants so be sure to register for one of the courses that best suits your schedule! The schedule of courses can be found HERE

If none of those courses suit you, we have made a survey for people to register their interest. We can offer instructor courses for Yacht Clubs if they have a pool of sailors ready to undertake the course. We ask that there are at least four participants for the course. The survey can be found by clicking HERE
