Instructor Course Calendar 2024
The 2024 Instructor Course Calendar is live! Check it out here: https://bit.ly/Instructor-Courses-2024
More courses to be added soon. If you don’t see a course that suits you, please fill out an EOI form here: https://www.sailing.org.au/surveys/4027
The instructor and coach courses are filling up with participants so be sure to register for one of the courses that best suits your schedule! The schedule of courses can be found HERE.
If none of those courses suit you, we have made a survey for people to register their interest. We can offer instructor courses for Yacht Clubs if they have a pool of sailors ready to undertake the course. We ask that there are at least four participants for the course. The survey can be found by clicking HERE.
DCBA Swan / Canning River Survey Results – Feedback invited:
In December 2023, DCBA conducted a survey to better understand how people value, use and interact with Perth’s rivers. 1289 responses were received and a summary of the survey results can be found on the DBCA website.
The survey helped identify a number of key values and management priorities that have informed the development of a Draft Derbal Yiragan (Swan) Djarlgarro (Canning) River Protection Strategy. The draft strategy is now out for public comment. Please see the DBCA website to access a copy and for further information on how to submit feedback.
If submitting a response on behalf of a group or organisation, it would be appreciated if member responses could be collated into one submission . This helps to better communicate key feedback and is a more streamlined process that allows for effective consideration of feedback from your organisation. The feedback form provided includes the opportunity to include the names of those that contributed to the response. Submissions are to be made via an online form where possible, however, we have provided an MS Word version of the form to aid in collating staff or member responses.
The consultation period will end on Wednesday 9 October 2024.
Message from Warren Drew – Vice President, YWA: Call for Nominations for YWA Board Members.
In accordance with Rule 32 of our Constitution, I am required to call for nominations for the Board.
The transition from state-based management to the national One Sailing model has resulted in a significant reduction in the workload and a change in the function of the Board from being an operational board to one of strategy.
Mark Nicholas resigned from the Board earlier this year; I thank Mark for his significant contribution and leadership during his tenure at YWA.
Considering the board rotation Rule 34 (1) which states inter alia that “at the annual general meeting, the Association must elect at least half of the Ordinary Board Members”, and the above changes, the following positions will become vacant, the currently serving board members are offering to stand for re-election: Position
Incumbent | Standing for re-election | |
President | Vacant | Seeking nomination |
Vice President | Warren Drew | Yes (1st year of 2nd two-year term) |
Treasurer | Denise Luscombe | Yes (1st year of 1st two-year term) |
Board Member | Michael McAullay | Yes (1st year of 3rd two-year term) |
Board Member | Emily Jones | Yes (1st year of 2nd two-year term) |
Board Member | Jenn Taylor | No (2nd year of 1st two-year term) |
Note that Denise Luscombe has been sitting as casual vacancy and will stand for election.
The role of President seeks a nomination. It remains within the Board's strategy to have a comprehensive skills matrix and gender balance.
To summarise then, this is the call for nominations to the Board and to advise the closing date for nominations will be Friday 13th of September 2024 at 17:00.
Confidential nominations together with a short biography should be submitted to me via email to ywapresident@sailing.org.au
I also advise the Members that the 2024 AGM (Annual General Meeting) will be held on Tuesday 1st OCTOBER 2024 at Royal Perth Yacht Club at 18:30, with the Notice of Annual General Meeting being dispatched on or before Tuesday 17th September 2024.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or any of your board members, or Club Support Officers, Kate Wearne 0411 592 257 or Libby Boyd on 0449 662.
Kind Regards
Warren Drew
