  1. 2032 Olympics

There has been many good discussion and questions asked since the announcement of the submission of the formal Queensland bid to host the 2032 Olympics. Indeed, there is also much positivity about the bid being successful and the benefits that may play out as a result for Queensland, sport in Queensland and specifically our sport of sailing.

I attended the launch of the PARLIAMENTARY FRIENDS OF THE OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC MOVEMENTS IN QUEENSLAND at Queensland Parliament House on Tuesday evening 9th March. In attendance was Olympians, Paralympians, the Sports Minister, the Shadow Sports Minister, Members of Parliament, the CEO of the Australian Olympic Committee (Matt Carrol, previous Australian Sailing CEO), and representatives from Queensland Sport.

An announcement on the bid may come as early as this year which would see an 11-year runway for Queensland to prepare to host the Olympic Games.

Venues for most sports, including sailing have not been confirmed, nor will they for quite some time we imagine. Australian Sailing has active and regular engagement with the Queensland Government and the Australian Olympic Committee on the topic and will ensure that our sport is included in the conversation for both training and competition venues. We do expect that there may be multiple venues required to accommodate the needs and wants of the different classes.

We will, of course, distribute further information as it becomes available. If you have any questions or comments please send them through to me directly so we can accumulate the feedback and prepare further information as required.

  1. Queensland Check In App

Have you heard about the Queensland Check in App?

The Check In Qld app enable Queensland Clubs to easily comply with current health directives by enabling members and guests to self check in at their club and have their information stored securely for Queensland Health for contact tracing should an outbreak occur.

It’s easy to register as a club!  There is a very short form you need to complete and it takes about 3 business days to get your QR code and club starter kit (including QR code posters). You will also need to setup a business profile once you have been approved.

Please click here to read the full article and information.

Action item for clubs:

  • Please share with your committee members and consider if this is a simpler way for your club to comply with the Check In requirements.

COVID Safe Sailing

There continues to be changes to the COVID Safe requirements for sporting events and activities to take place. Further amendments are being made to the Industry plans. I encourage you to read the latest advice from the Queensland Government and ensure you and your club are fully compliant.
