General Manager - Queensland Monthly Update June 2021

Published Tue 15 Jun 2021

Please find the latest updates for June 2021, provided by Australian Sailing QLD Regional Manager Ben Callard:

1. Online Blue Card Portals and Working with Children

Your club and class association can now manage your organisation Blue Card requirements via an online portal. The Blue Card Services Organisation Portal is an online system to help employers and volunteer organisations keep track of their blue card obligations and records in one place.

I highly recommend you visit the Resources and support for the Organisation portal page on the Blue Card Services website. This provides information/guides to linking, viewing notices, and managing the register via the Portal. Full list of Organisation Portal resources here.

There are also a number of Risk Management resources, I have included some information available on their website for you to review.

2. Clubs Conference

Club Conferences are locked in for 2021 and we are working on making it the best yet. The Club Conference schedule has been expanded to include the following events:

  • 2021 QLD She Sails Networking Evening – Friday 23rd July, starting at 6pm.
    • This is an open invitation to all of the sailing community interested in finding out more or showing your support for inclusion in the sport of sailing. Join a high quality panel and hear how sailing has positively impacted their life, any challenges and success they have experienced and what the future holds.
  • 2021 QLD Clubs Conference – Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th July, starting at 9am.
    • We invite and encourage all club and class association committee members to attend. The conference will touch on a range of topics including child safety, retention, the new Australian Sailing Strategic Plan and provide opportunities for networking, workshops and discussion.
  • 2021 QLD Club safety Forum – Sunday 25th July, starting at 9am.
    • Included as day two of the club conference, this forum will focus on safety initiatives and discussions for clubs. Some of the topics will include Equipment Auditing, Special Regulations and safety Category Selection and critical incident response.

All events will be conducted at the Brisbane Sailing Squadron.

4. Youth Sail QLD

Can we beat the record number of participants from 2020 in 2021?

For all the information and to register. Please click here.

The Green fleet program is targeted towards sailors who have recently completed a Tackers 3 learn to sail program or equivalent. The focus is around having fun and learning new skills as an introduction to racing. It is composed of a 3-day training camp followed by a 3-day regatta conducted by qualified instructors and is an ideal way to participate in your first regatta.

Youth Sail QLD will again be hosted by the Keppel Bay Sailing Club, Yeppoon.

To find out who the coaches are and FAQ’s, please click here.

Action item for clubs:

  1. Please promote and encourage your junior and youth sailors to attend.

5. Club Affiliation Fees

In 2018, Australian Sailing introduced a national banded fee structure for Club affiliation fees.

As agreed at that time with clubs, Australian Sailing committed to conduct a review of the new club affiliation fee system within the first 3 years.

This was mentioned in the Quarterly update for clubs and in the March club news>

A national working group was established by the Australian Sailing Board and included 9 members with a mix of Australian Sailing, State Yachting Association and club representatives. The working group has concluded their review and the recommendations have been approved by the AS Board and are in the final stages of approval with each of the State Yachting Associations.
