Published Mon 15 Feb 2021

1. Welcome to 2021.

Dear Clubs and Class Associations,

I hope everyone is well and you have enjoyed a smooth start to 2021.

I would like to take this opportunity to pass on my thanks to each of the Queensland Clubs and Class Associations for your contribution and dedication to the sport of sailing over the last 12 months. 2020 was a difficult year for many, for many reasons, but because of your continued efforts I believe our sailing community has weathered the storm well and is in a great position to take full advantage of 2021.

2. Queensland Quarterly Updates and Club Cluster Meetings

As a result of feedback from club contacts who have found the Club Cluster meetings beneficial, we are expanding our networking and communication opportunities. During 2021 I will be conducting an online Quarterly update via Microsoft Teams. These will provide a summary of activities past and planned, touch on any hot topics and an opportunity for those engaged to ask questions or provide feedback. Following the Quarterly updates Annie and Grant will lead the Club Cluster meetings allowing for clubs to get together in smaller groups to discuss the topics, seek further information or discuss other topics relevant to those clubs. I encourage your club to get involved and engage with your sailing community through these forums.

5. Queensland Talent Search

Australian Sailing has long delivered a series of Regional Development Coaching Clinics and 2021 will be no exception. Unfortunately, in 2020 the majority of these had to be cancelled. To boost the space Australian Sailing has partnered with four existing events across Queensland to provide our junior and youth sailors with an opportunity for high level coaching and the possibility of being identified as potential talent for our Sailing Performance Programs.

In addition to the opportunities for young sailors we also extend an invitation all club and regional coaches to be involved. It is a great opportunity for our regional coaches to work along side a number of our professional and very experienced sailing coaches and learn some tricks of the trade, a few new drills or some key insights into what our national coaches are looking for in our up-and-coming sailors.

The format of the events will be in the way of a coaching clinic immediately before or after a key regatta.

The 2021 Talent Search events for Queensland will be:

  1. Sail Airlie Easter Regatta, Whitsundays Sailing Club, Airlie Beach.
    1. Regatta – 3, 4, 5 April 2021                 Info and details.
    2. Coaching Clinic – 6 & 7 April 2021     Register.
  2. Queensland Youth Week, Royal Queensland Yacht squadron, Brisbane.
    1. Coaching Clinic – TBC.
