First Entries received for the 2019 Nautilus Marine St Helena Cup

Published Mon 02 Sep 2019

Although entries only opened for the St Helena Cup on 27th August, the Monohull, IRC and Cruising divisions all have their first entries. Wynnum Manly Sailing club is proud to conduct the largest weekend “BIG BOAT” regatta held in Southern Queensland each year with around 100 yachts regularly entering. It is also the only teams event on the local sailing calendar which adds another dimension to this historical regatta.

The St Helena Cup regatta dates back to 1976, but the cup itself was awarded to the winner of a shooting competition held on St Helena Island in 1890.  It was kindly gifted to Wynnum Manly Yacht Club by Mick Patterson, the grandson of the 1890 winner, Edwin Cloherty.  Sadly, Mick Patterson passed away on 27th July this year, but his legacy lives on with the St Helena Cup.

Proudly sponsored by Nautilus Marine Insurance, Manly Hotel, Muir Marine, Hood Sails, DisplayCraft, AustraliaWide Boat Sails and Multihull Central, we have several thousands of dollars worth of prizes for the various winners and placegetters. Shore based activities are hosted at Wynnum Manly Yacht Club, with sign on Friday 4th October, and entertainment and prize draws on Saturday night, 5th October.  Meals, refreshments and breakfasts available over the entire weekend.  Berthing available for visiting yachts.

Entries are now open for the 2019 Nautilus Marine St Helena Cup to be held on Moreton Bay on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th October.   You can enter here  or see here for more information and www.wynnummanlysailingclub.com.au
