Have you been thinking about something a little different in 2022? Consider the Gove Regional Regatta, the most remote regatta in Australia! 

There are 3 divisions with plenty of boats available for hire if you don’t plan on sailing or driving into town. Introduced in 2020 the Regional Regatta is known as a great social event with good racing to boot. Campgrounds on the waterfront at the club make it a great atmosphere and there are normally 80-100 sailors participating.

There will be live music nightly throughout the regatta, with camping and live aboard facilities available at the club. If you are flying to town there is accommodation and car hire available in town.

Located in East Arnhem Land the Gove Boat Club is surrounded by amazing cruising grounds with fantastical granite islands, heaps of marine life and the best fishing in Australia. If you are cruising, it’s worth adding the Gove Peninsula to your list. For boats coming from the West the club is planning on a small yacht race from Darwin to Gove prior to the main regatta.  If this sounds like you the contact the club at admin@goveboatclub.com.au for more information.

For those driving or flying there are two divisions – Lasers & FarrEast19R. Boats can be hired from the club, or you can transport your Laser via road or barge from Darwin. In the past this has been facilitated by the generous sponsorship of SeaSwift. For those driving its 1000km from Darwin through some amazing country but you will need a 4wd as most of the road is unsealed.

East Arnhem Land is a part of the world that remains relatively untouched and is a place that you won’t forget in a hurry with amazing camping, beaches, creeks, arts, and cultural experiences.
