ENTRIES NOW OPEN: 2018 YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CAMP AND CHAMPIONSHIPS AT THE KEPPEL BAY SAILING CLUB

Published Wed 04 Jul 2018

The Keppel Bay Sailing Club in conjunction with Australian Sailing is excited to once again host the 2018 Queensland Youth Camp and Championships and entries are now open! Get set for another full week of top quality coaching with our Youth Development Camp happening from Monday, 24th until Wednesday, 26th September 2018.

Camp is designed to improve the racing skills of junior and youth sailors. Overall it focuses on the skills and techniques necessary for sailing athletes to effectively campaign their boat at State, National and International Regattas. A successful and popular addition to the camp we also hold our Green Fleet Camp at the Causeway Lake.

A range of internationally renowned coaches and athletes will attend the full program of events. Our two top coaches will include Matt Belcher – a dual Olympic medallist claimed gold at the London 2012 Games and then a Silver Medal at the Rio Games in 2016. Matt is currently now training for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Mat will be a fantastic mentor for aspiring Olympians and any sailor who wants to improve their skills.

Ashley Stoddart also competed at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in the Woman’s Laser Radial division where she finished 9th overall. Ashley started off sailing here at KBSC as a junior Sabot Sailor, she continues to enjoy sailing, in a variety of forms, including coaching the next generation of sailors.

Following the Development Camp, our Youth Championships will be held from Thursday, 27th until Saturday 29th September. High quality racing is expected over a variety of classes; those competing will have the opportunity to compare their sailing skills with the other participants while having fun on the water at the same time.

Last year our Qld Youth Development Camp and Championships exceeded the previous year’s record number of participants growing total participant numbers by 44% in just 3 short years. This is the 12th year KBSC will conduct the event and it is fantastic to see how the event has developed to be one of the best junior and youth training clinics in the country. With great national and regional coaches, a picturesque racing area and quality volunteers and officials this event highlights our strengths as a Club.

We look forward to welcoming our Youth Sailors to the Keppel Bay Sailing Club in the September school holidays. Register today on the link provided.
